Lent 2026 - Week 7

Wisdom in the Desert - Week 7

The Lessons of the Desert

Entering the Holy Week

Read:

Palm Sunday remembers the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. In less than a week, Jesus will be arrested and the crowd will turn on Him; cries of exaltation will be replaced with calls for execution. This week we will explore how we move from fickle to faithful in our spiritual maturity; drawing inspiration from the Desert Fathers and Mothers who chose to welcome hardship to pursue single-hearted devotion to God. As the week continues we’ll leave the desert and follow Jesus in his journey towards the cross, and through the grave to offer new life to all.

Reflect:

  1. What has God revealed to you during this journey through Lent? Reflect on both what you have discovered about yourself, and what you have discovered about God.
  2. Which of the themes we have explored through Lent did you find the most challenging?
  3. Jesus arrived into Jerusalem as a king, but not the king that the people expected (he had no intention of overthrowing the Roman Empire by military force). Are there any areas of your life where you are currently wrestling with God? Is there anything he is not doing that you thought or hoped he would?
  4. What commitments are you making to try and build new rhythms or practices into your spiritual formation in the future?
