God's Perspective, Priorities and Humble People

Enjoy the music and read the words...

... or just read the words below!

Advent sees the weaving together of various strands that make up the Christmas story.

It begins with several messages from God. These messages are so  important that it is the angel Gabriel who is entrusted with delivering them.

Mary’s first response to the angel’s message is with confusion: ‘But how will this be since I am a virgin?’

The Angel replies: ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the almighty God will overshadow you’. This is all she needs to hear for humble acceptance.

Joseph is troubled by her pregnancy, and plans to divorce her quietly when again the angel
Gabriel comes with a message for him too.

Just as with Mary, he responds with humble acceptance of the role he is asked to play.

And so they journey to Bethlehem, Mary heavy with child. There are others involved in this story too.

They include the Shepherds watching their flocks out on the hillside. It seems as if God is determined to use the humble and the lowly to bring about His plan of redemption and to tell them first of the amazing news.

The Eastern Astrologers (sometimes called Magi or Wise Men) who might be considered the important ones, and who by studying the stars have learned of the birth of the Messiah. Well they do not arrive in Bethlehem until sometime after Jesus' birth.

It is very easy for us to discount ourselves as not having asignificant part to play in God’s plans, but look at how He used Mary and Joseph and how He announced Jesus' birth first to
the Shepherds.

Father God thank you that when
I read the story of Jesus birth,
I know that you use the humble
and those with hearts turned
towards you.

Help me to keep a heart that is always
turned towards you too.

Lets take a moment to pray...

Father God thank you that when
I read the story of Jesus birth,
I know that you use the humble
and those with hearts turned
towards you.

Help me to keep a heart that is always
turned towards you too.

Amen.
