Waiting

With Deborah Laycock (Christen's Sister)

It's been so long since we felt the thrill of the prophets voice
resonating with the hope we keep buried
deep at the bottom of shadowy hearts.

So long since we felt the chill of the Spirit's breath,
touching our enslaved souls
as mercy rolls like rivers of heaven on earth.

Have you forgotten, mighty God,
how Moses stroked your cheek
and wept your tears for unrepentant people?

Have you withdrawn, eternal Father,
and hidden your healing hand now,
that once raised a widow's son to life?

Prince of Peace, will you never turn your face
towards us and shine on us?
Will you never come close enough to touch again?

Let us know the Spirit seething in our depths again,
even in our bitterness.
Let your voice come ringing in our ears with promises fulfilled.

Let your words come hurtling through our wilderness
like newborn cries of life,
to raise a long-awaited harvest

and give us a sign from heaven
emblazoned on our pitch-dark sky
to show us where you are.

Let's Pray

Lord Jesus,

Help us to to know your closeness and care even when our prayers don't seem to he answered as past as we would like them to.

Help us to be honest withthe feeling and yet faith filled in our trust as we wait for you to do what we can't and and which we believe is your Kingdom being done on earth as it is in heaven.

Amen
