Thoughts from Judith
This beautiful song was written some years ago by an old friend. I have always loved it. I remember how, twenty-two years ago, our son sang it in a hushed church at his primary school carol service and how much it blessed the parents and staff. I hope it blesses you, too.
Word and Music by Mike Burn
Open the words here...
Who could have dared to dream it
Who would have dared to hope?
That the author of creation
Should become as one of us
The God who is everywhere
Chose to be confined
To a moment in history
The birth of a child
And an ocean of love poured out
A fountain of grace sprang up
And the voice of God could be heard in a baby’s cry
Come to the Peace Child
Let him still your soul
He was the only one
Who could bring hope to this world
As the centuries have passed
and our search for peace goes on
It’s still to be found in the heart of a child
And as we mark each New Year
We give thanks for the past
For we know our God is faithful
He is worthy of our trust
And through the world’s suffering
Through all the pain
He knows what it feels like
He knew it as a man
And an ocean of love is ours
A fountain of grace still flows
And the voice of God whispers into our hearts once more
Unto us a child is born
Unto us a son is giv’n
He’ll be called Wonderful Counsellor
Mighty God, Eternal Father
Prince of Peace
Who would have dared to hope?

The words tell how the author of creation became one of us - choosing to be confined to a moment in history by cloaking Himself in humanity. How the voice of God spoke oceans of love and fountains of grace through a baby’s cry as His own son was born to bring peace to His world.
This earth-shattering move of God, prophesied throughout the Old Testament, changed everything because it was the most profound and clear assurance that God has been, is, and always will be, with us. He knows what it is to be human because He grew from child to adult, through suffering and pain, from death to resurrection. Everything we ever experience, think or feel is known to Jesus because He has experienced it too. He draws close in times of both sorrow and joy. He loves to hear our dreams, see our gifts and talents develop and He sees and understands our motivations. He is faithful and will always be.
Let Him draw you close today. Come to the Peace Child and let Him still your soul, placing Him at the centre of your Christmas.

Pray with me…
Lord Jesus, we are so thankful You came as a baby to bring peace. We need Your peace so much in our world, in our homes and in our hearts. Thank You that You never stir us up to acts of aggression or domination because from Your heart pour oceans of love, grace, truth and humility. Reveal Yourself to us again this Christmas. Remind us that You have given us an example to follow that is truly stunning, unique and fulfilling. Thank you that You entered the world to bring us freedom and a destiny that can never be stolen. Help us to remember to lean into this truth as Christmas Day approaches.
Amen
