Carrying a Candle

Carrying a Candle
A poem by Jan Sutch Pickard, read by Caroline Dally
The candle is used as an image of hope and of Jesus’ power over death.  It’s a powerful image of light breaking through the darkness. Jesus left the throne of heaven and came to us on earth as a helpless baby. How can such a small, fragile, precarious life bring light for the whole world?  But this was God’s plan, to send His son and through his life and ministry the light would spread, his death on the cross breaking the power of sin over us. There are times when situations can seem hopeless and to look for any good in it a vain and foolish hope, BUT God’s light continues to break through the darkness. We may feel that what we are doing for God is small, but the impact of walking hand in hand with Him is far reaching.

PRAYER

Father God thank you from the bottom of my heart that you have loved us enough to send us Jesus, the light for the world.  I pray you would help me to be light, to demonstrate the truth of who you are, to bring hope where there seems to be no hope. Help me to be your hands and your mouthpiece, bringing your light in the darkness around me.

Amen
