As the birth of Jesus approaches we have been reflecting on different aspects of this waiting season. At an earthly level, there were so many things to consider, so much to make ready for the awaited birth. Heaven was also making the final preparations as the time and place were made ready for the Saviour of the world to be born. Heaven’s glorious angels engaged with simple human beings, and a door was opened into the heavenly realm, never again to be closed.
It is hard to grasp the enormity of what God has done for us. The eternal One who flung stars into space, created a universe that knows no limits, who created us and knows us intimately, chose to become the most vulnerable of human beings, a baby, and to experience all that being human means. He did that so he could bring us back into relationship with himself, because he loves us so much.
Come let us adore him, worship him and thank him. He has given us the greatest gift, - himself. Glory to God in the Highest!
PRAYER:
Help us to glimpse the wonder of who you are and what you have done for us, not just for this Christmas season but for always.
As you have poured out heaven’s goodness, mercy and love for us, help us to respond to you. The carol “In the bleak mid-winter’ holds these words which we can make personal:
What can I give you poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would give a lamb
If I were a wise man, I would do my part
Yet what I can I give you, give my heart.
